Petershill

Scottish women's football has now switched to playing a summer season, and today was the start of the second half of the campaign after a mid season break. Petershill Park, home ground of Junior team Petershill played host to a double header in the Scottish Women's Premier League.

The ground was redeveloped a few years ago, and moved a little to the west of the old ground. A 3G synthetic pitch means it gets plenty of use.

The view from street level shows that the ground stands on relatively high ground, with the land dropping away just as sharply on the far side.

First up are reigning champions and current league leaders Glasgow City, with third placed Spartans providing their opposition. The Edinburgh based side make a good start, placing the hosts under early pressure.

Spartans take a 14th minute lead, Diana Berry latching on to a short back pass to lob the hosts keeper Claire Johnstone. However, Glasgow City respond quickly, and although Jane Ross is denied by the woodwork, Leanne Ross equalises from the penalty spot on 35 minutes.

A fine move gives Glasgow City the lead right on half-time, Megan Sneddon releasing Emma Fernon for a cross that Jane Ross headed home at the near post. They rarely looked like surrendering their lead after that, and Suzanne Lappin sealed a 3-1 victory with a 79th minute goal.

A second game immediately follows, with mid table Rangers entertaining Dundee United SC, who lie tenth out of twelve clubs. It is soon apparent that there is a gulf between the teams, with Rangers applying all the pressure.

Lindzi Bayne opens the scoring on 9 minutes, and helps herself to a first half hat-trick from her midfield role, whilst Lana Clelland scores twice in a four minute spell, and a well placed free-kick by Lesley McMaster accounts for a 6-0 interval scoreline.

Rangers are also twice denied by the woodwork over the course of the ninety minutes, whilst this wide angled shot of the east end of the ground comes as Dundee United create their best effort of the game, Debbie Johnston's free-kick coming back off the post.

Lana Clelland becomes the second Rangers player to complete a hat-trick on 53 minutes, but the second half is a tighter affair, and the only other goal sees Cheryl Gallagher tap home after more good work by Lindzi Bayne, completing an 8-0 scoreline.
